Nature Guide in My Pocket

A few days ago, I ran to the beach. In my effort to increase the yield of my run, I consider myriad options. The one I wished I could act on was learning more about the interesting bits and bobs of nature around me. I lamented my lack of knowledge and the fact that I could generate questions faster than I'd ever answer them. But then I remembered about the AI chatbot app installed on my phone...

I pulled up the app and started a conversation stating my location and asking about pictures of interesting animals and plants that I noticed on the beach. I also queried to learn why the beach I was standing in was rocky rather than sandy like the beach a few miles south of my location. All my questions were answered in short order. It was incredible. It took me less than twenty minutes. I didn't even have to type because the dictation feature of the app was great.

I am struck by how usage of AI chatbots can rapidly expand my factual knowledge based on the specific context in which I'm acting. I don't need to read a book about my general region, I can learn based on what's right in front of me. How remarkable!
